Republic day is celebrated from 26th January to 29th of January every year & on 29th of January. The official conclusion of Republic Day festivities is much later on 29 January, three days after the Republic Day, which is called ‘Beating Retreat’.

Republic Day Parade: After hoisting the flag, the most interesting part, the Republic Day Parade takes place. The main Republic Day Parade gets underway at 9.30 a.m. on January 26 every year. It runs for around three hours. A full dress rehearsal is also held a few days before the actual event.

Why Republic Day is celebrated on 26th January every year?

Our country got freedom on 15 August 1947, after which the process of preparing a constitution was started. The Constitution was passed on 26 November 1949 which was adopted on 26 January 1950 with a democratic government system, when the country became a republic in true sense. 26 January was selected, because on 26 January 1950 Declaration of Indian Independence was passed.
