Prime Minister Narendra Modi drawn the new dimension of India-Russia relations in its first informal summit on Monday with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He said that the strategic partnership between the two countries has now turned into a 'special privileged strategic partnership' which is a huge achievement.
In his first remarks in this meeting of both the leaders in Russia's coastal city of Sochi, Modi said in his opening remarks that India and Russia have long been friends and that friendship is unbreakable. Modi said, "I am grateful to President Putin that he invited me for an informal meeting. In this way, a new dimension has been added to our long friendship. ' He said that you have added a new dimension of the informal summit in (Putin) bilateral relations. I consider it a big opportunity.
Modi has mentioned at least seven times former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee this time. Recalling his first visit to Russia with then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2001, Modi said that Russia and Putin are very important in their political career because Putin was the first global leader, whom he met after becoming Chief Minister of Gujarat. Modi said, "Since then 18 years have passed and for discussions on various issues, I have got many opportunities to meet you and tried to take India-Russia relations forward." He said that seeds of strategic partnerships sown by then Prime Minister Vajpayee and President Putin have now been transformed into a privileged strategic partnership between the two countries.
Modi thanked Russia for playing an important role in helping India in getting permanent membership of the SCO. The purpose of this organization of eight nations is to increase military and economic cooperation in member countries. India and Pakistan were included in this organization last year. Modi said that we are working together on the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) and the BRICS.
Modi congratulated Putin on becoming Russia's President for the fourth time. He said, 'It was my good fortune that you had a phone conversation and soon got a chance to congratulate you on meeting with you. Since the time you took over in 2000, our relationship has been historic. '
Putin says Modi's visit will spur new relations
Welcoming Prime Minister Modi, Putin said that his visit will make a new life in bilateral relations. He said, "Our Ministry of Defense maintains very close contact and cooperation. It automatically describes our highly strategic partnership. ' He also praised the joint cooperation between the two countries in the field of foreign policy. The Russian President specifically mentioned the UN, BRICS, and SCO for this. Putin said that there has been a significant increase in the mutual trade last year and there has been an increase of over 17 percent in the first several months of this year.
Prime Minister Modi also congratulated President Putin and Russia for being the host of the FIFA World Cup-2018. The Prime Minister said, 'The whole world is eagerly waiting for FIFA World Cup-2018. You are going to organize it. You will be the center of attraction of the world and I congratulate you for this. ' It is known that the men's FIFA World Cup will be held from June 14 to July 15 at 12 places in 11 cities of Russia. In this, 32 teams from all over the world will participate and 64 matches will be played during this period. The special thing is that for the first time in 32 years, the American team will not be able to participate in it as it has not been able to qualify for the competition. The FIFA World Cup is organized every four years.
